Since arriving in Costa Rica a couple of weeks ago I’ve been struck by the rich array of sounds that greet your ears at all times of day and night. Dawn chorus is more like a dawn disco for the wildlife, locals start noisily at daybreak, and the weather can be thunderously loud.
This week, I’m turning that Costa Rican quality into a positive and focusing on being more mindful of the sounds all around.
Learning to listen to, and truly hear, your surroundings is a great way to develop a more mindful state of being
The biggest take away from my week learning to meditate was mindfulness, a term ascribed to the meditative state of being both mentally alert and zoned-out, of embracing each and every living moment and tuning into its unique benefits. Learning to listen to, and truly hear, your surroundings is a great way to develop a more mindful state of being. We spend so much time and energy filtering out all the extraneous noise, but all we fill the space with are our own internal chatterings. This week, that will stop – I’m ears open, wide awake and ready for an awesome sonic discovery.
This Weekly Challenge is now complete. To see how I got on with the ‘Listen Challenge’ take a look at this post, or for more about how I’m trying 52 new things in just 52 weeks, go here.
