This week I am in Peru to take on the mighty Inca Trail. 4 days of gruelling uphill hiking, giddy altitude and freezing temperatures, with one incredible prize at the top: the ancient Incan city of Machu Pichu.

Sure, Peru’s Inca Trail to Machu Pichu might be the most visited tourist destination in South America, but I am ‘doing’ it the hard way with this trek. Besides, by hiking the Inca Trail, it’ll be the first time I’ve walked for 4 solid days, the first time I’ve hiked at altitude, the first time I’ve camped at altitude, and the first time I’ve seen a mystical sun-worshipping city up close. That’s enough firsts to guarantee I spend a significant portion of this week outside my comfort zone.

I’m also really excited about the Inca Trail challenge because it hasn’t always been possible to unite my travels across the Americas with my Weekly Challenges, so quite often I’ve been visiting somewhere fantastic and having to focus some time every day on an unrelated Weekly Challenge. For example, a couple of weeks ago I found myself in the beautiful coffee region of Colombia tasked with the Weekly Challenge of writing a business plan every day! This week will be different, as the two sides of my current lifestyle unite for an exciting 4 day slog up an Andean mountain. Huzzah!
