This third week brings a challenging new aspect to my life as a fluxer – a while ago my wife and I decided we needed to use some of this precious year to travel, and today we headed out of the UK for at least six months on the road. As a rule, I dislike backpacking, but now I’ll have to face my fears because, for the next six months at least, I’m joining that dubiously-intentioned clan.

This week specifically, though, the challenge is to decide/explain specifically why, how and where I’ll be travelling. So, having jettisoned 99.9% of my possessions, rented my home out and boarded a plane for Chicago (from which this post is being written), it looks like I will almost certainly end this week – and possibly this year – as a backpacker.

See why I hate backpacking and why I love backpacking here.
